FAQ:

Can I get banana plug ends? - Back to Top
Yes, these are an option. Please specify which ends (amp and/or speaker) at time of order.

Should I bi-wire? - Back to Top
Absolutely, if you can. As a general rule, the lower the speaker's impedance is, and the longer the run, the more benefit bi-wiring can provide. Many customers order a single set to see what the Anti-Cables are all about. Then later, buy a second set to bi-wire.

How do I bi-wire? - Back to Top

  1. Simply buy two stereo sets.
  2. Have us make a bi-wire set for you for the cost of two stereo sets plus $20 for us to shotgun two wires into each spade (or optional banana's) at the amplifier ends.

How long do they take to break-in? - Back to Top
Because the Anti-Cable wire has very little dielectric material surrounding it, there is less to "break-in". Most people think the Anti-Cables sound great right out of the box, yet others report they get better with time. Once you get about 100 hours on the Anti-Cables, you consider them quite broken-in.

Can I run different lengths? - Back to Top
Yes, with the Anti-Cables.
A typical speaker cable's dielectric affect will accumulate with longer runs, causing the distortion to become worse and worse. For example, AudioQuest FAQ pages stated that, "the speaker hooked up to the longer cable will sound as though it is lacking punch and dynamics". In addition, purchasing two different lengths can save you money.

Since the Anti-Cables have almost no dielectric material, running different lengths has not been a problem, and you can save money. See order page for more info on buying half sets of different lengths.

What size are the spades? - Back to Top
They are a bit over a 1/2" wide with a stepped opening which fits the standard 1/4" (6mm) or the wider 5/16" (8mm) binding posts. If you need the smaller "vintage" size spade we can do that special for you. "Vintage" size spades will fit screw terminals typical of 1960's audio gear, and Vandersteen speaker screw terminals.

What spades do you use? - Back to Top
We use a proprietary solid copper spade that is not excessively oversized yet built for high performance and high reliability. Each Spade is "cold welded" (extreme high pressure crimp) to the copper wire.

How stiff is the wire? - Back to Top
Coat hanger wire is stiff, the Anti-Cable wire is not like that. It is very soft compared to coat hanger wire. The Anti-Cable wire is flexible enough to loop around a Magic Marker size pen, yet just stiff enough to hold that shape after you let go. Because of it's unique malleability, they can be drawn and formed into virtually and shape you need.

Can the wires touch each other? - Back to Top
Yes, the red coating insulates the copper wire, and is rated at about 10 times the voltage typically seen coming out of a power amplifier. There is no chance of shorting out your amplifier.

Are these wires difficult to use? - Back to Top
They are not difficult to use, but they certainly handle differently than typical speaker cables. The Anti-Cable wire can easily be formed to work properly for your system.

What happens if I kink the wire? - Back to Top
No worries. A kink will not affect the sound in any way, and can easily be un-kinked. Using a pair of leather gloves, squeeze tight and draw the kink in the wire through your hands a few times to straighten.

How durable is the red coating? - Back to Top
The red coating will not wear off under normal conditions. The red coating can be scraped off with a sharp knife, yet a sharp knife would also cut any typical cable as well, so they are just are durable as any other speaker cable.

The great thing about the red coating is it also keep oxygen off the copper through the life of the cables, preventing oxidation and sonic degradation. This is something no typical speaker cable can do. Cut open a 5 year old set of typical cables, and don't be surprised if the copper looks like a 5 year old penny.

What kind of wire is it? - Back to Top
Super long drawn highly annealed continuously cast oxygen free copper (CCOFC), with less than ten parts per million impurities.

Can I buy just the red wire? - Back to Top
If you are a DIY'er, you can buy the Anti-Cable wire in bulk form for $1.25/foot.

How do I manage the wires? - Back to Top
As with any audio cables, they tend to sound better when kept a few inches away from everything, including the carpeted floor. The stiffness of the Anti-Cable wires can help you to keep them suspended in the air. Extra long Anti-Cable runs can be better managed using cable isolators.

What is the return policy? - Back to Top
The Anti-Cables may be returned up to 30 days after purchase. Returns must be approved before they are shipped. Custom jobs are not returnable. Contact Judy Speltz or Paul Speltz at 651-735-0534 for RETURN AUTHORIZATION, then ship to: Paul Speltz, 2325 Wallingford Lane, Woodbury, MN, 55125, USA.
